Radioactivity measurement survey (radioactivity level survey)

A radioactivity survey that was conducted by the Secretariat of the Nuclear Regulation Authority (*1), entrusted to prefectural governments and the Japan Chemical Analysis Center, for the purpose of understanding the levels of environmental radioactivity.

(*1) The operations were transferred from the Science and Technology Agency to the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) in April 2000, and then from MEXT to the Secretariat of the Nuclear Regulation Authority in April 2013.

Radioactivity survey (Japan Coast Guard)

A radioactivity survey that was conducted by the Hydrographic and Oceanographic Department, Japan Coast Guard (*2), for the purpose of understanding the impact of nuclear tests, etc. on the marine environment.

A radioactivity survey that was conducted by the National Research Institute of Fisheries Science, Japan Fisheries Research and Education Agency (*3) , for the purpose of verifying the safety of fishing grounds in the sea areas around Japan.

(*3) The Japan Fisheries Research and Education Agency was inaugurated in April 2016.

Kumejima environment survey

A radioactivity survey that was conducted by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (*6) , entrusted to the Japan Chemical Analysis Center, for the purpose of understanding the levels of environmental radioactivity at Kumejima and surrounding sea areas pertaining to the issue of misuse of depleted uranium ammunition.

Marine radioactivity survey

A radioactivity survey that was conducted by the Secretariat of the Nuclear Regulation Authority (*7) , entrusted to the Marine Ecology Research Institute, etc. (*8) , for the purpose of understanding the levels of environmental radioactivity in major fishing grounds off the coast of nuclear facilities.

(*7) The operations were transferred from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology to the Secretariat of the Nuclear Regulation Authority in April 2013.
(*8) The survey was also carried out by the Thermal Aquaculture Development Society of Japan during the period from 1972 to 2007.
